Since the release of SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny in 2009, Namco Bandai has remained tight-lipped about the future of its weapon-based beat-’em-up. One of the reasons could be down to PSP game’s poor performance–it failed to make the publisher’s top 10 sales list for April-September, being beaten by the likes of Afro Samurai and We Ski & Snowboard.

SoulCalibur will be returning to home consoles next year though, as publisher Namco Bandai has announced the fifth game in the series will be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Project Soul team producer Hisaharu Tago took to the stage at the publisher’s annual Level Up showcase event to reveal a “true sequel” for the fighting game series, set 17 years after the events of Soul Calibur IV. SoulCalibur V is due for release sometime in 2012.

Namco Bandai revealed a host of new titles at the Dubai showcase event, including Ace Combat 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Impact for PSP, and an untitled Dragon Ball Z project for PS3 and Xbox 360. The publisher also announced that Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will be out on October 11 in the US and October 14 in Europe.

Tekken Project director Katsuhiro Harada also came on stage to announce Tekken Blood Vengeance, a CG-animated movie scripted by the writer of Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The feature will come to cinemas in 3D this summer, said Harada.
