id: People getting sick of modern combat. Also, consoles are slow, Rage mod tools coming at launch (RAGE)
So if you’ve read my hands-on with id’s Rage from yesterday (which you can do just here if you haven’t), you’ll know that it’s looking good. Very very good, in fact. But that knowledge isn’t all we came away from that preview day with. Oh no. We’vew also acquired some words with id Creative Director Tim Willits. And he said some rather interesting things, in regards to Rage’s chances of success, the generic, formulaic, misguided state of shooters in general, and how consoles really stack up against PC hardware (clue: they’re slower, and not just in the ways you’d think).
Also, it seems that Rage’s full set of development tools are going to be available when the PC version launches. Which isn’t surprising, as id are always good like that, but it’s welcome news regardless. Click the big magic arrow above to see and hear him moving and talking as if he were in the very room with you. It’s witchcraft, I say.

Disney Universe coming this autumn
Multiplayer adventure Disney Universe out on X360, PS3, PC, and Mac this autumn; will feature Monsters, Inc., Lilo and Stitch, Alice in Wonderland, and Tron: Legacy.
Disney Interactive is bringing Disney Universe, a multiplayer action adventure title, to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Mac this autumn. The game is set in six worlds inspired by animated and live action films from Disney, as well as those of the CGI animation supremos at Pixar.
Players can dress a cutesy blue avatar character in one of over 40 costumes, each of which has unique powers that level up during play. Four costumes were revealed in the teaser trailer that accompanied today’s announcement: Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Mike from Monsters, Inc., Tron from Tron: Legacy, and Stitch from Lilo and Stitch.
The co-operative multiplayer modes support up to four players, letting them team up and take part in missions that follow Disney and Pixar movie storylines. Combat, puzzle solving, coin collection, and power-ups are on offer, and Disney has promised plenty of “slapstick humour”. In addition, content such as new worlds and costumes will be available for purchase after the game launches.
The announcement of Disney Universe follows big losses from Disney’s Interactive Media Group, which posted a loss of $ 128 million (£73.6 million) for the six-month period ending April 2, 2011. It also follows layoffs that formed part of the company’s move toward casual and social gaming. Those cuts included the closure of Tron: Evolution studio Propaganda Games and hundreds of layoffs across other internal development studios, including Epic Mickey maker Junction Point.

SoulCalibur V coming to Xbox 360, PS3 in 2012
Namco Bandai announces “true sequel” to SoulCalibur for 2012; game to launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Since the release of SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny in 2009, Namco Bandai has remained tight-lipped about the future of its weapon-based beat-’em-up. One of the reasons could be down to PSP game’s poor performance–it failed to make the publisher’s top 10 sales list for April-September, being beaten by the likes of Afro Samurai and We Ski & Snowboard.
SoulCalibur will be returning to home consoles next year though, as publisher Namco Bandai has announced the fifth game in the series will be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Project Soul team producer Hisaharu Tago took to the stage at the publisher’s annual Level Up showcase event to reveal a “true sequel” for the fighting game series, set 17 years after the events of Soul Calibur IV. SoulCalibur V is due for release sometime in 2012.
Namco Bandai revealed a host of new titles at the Dubai showcase event, including Ace Combat 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Impact for PSP, and an untitled Dragon Ball Z project for PS3 and Xbox 360. The publisher also announced that Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will be out on October 11 in the US and October 14 in Europe.
Tekken Project director Katsuhiro Harada also came on stage to announce Tekken Blood Vengeance, a CG-animated movie scripted by the writer of Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The feature will come to cinemas in 3D this summer, said Harada.
