While this month has been moderate when compared to November, new titles are still stockpiling local game shelves, or at least on digital distribution sites like XBLA and the iTunes store. First up is the iOS version of Grand Theft Auto III. Subtitled as the ’10 Year Anniversary’ edition, the game now features touch screen controls and revamped graphics resolution. For more information on the recent port, check out GameSpot’s preview.

Next up is the first DLC for Gears of War 3, entitled RAAM’s Shadow. The story-based DLC follows Zeta Squad as they evacuate people from Illima City in a campaign set before the original Gears of War story. In addition, the game will also feature 250 achievement points to earn as well as six new characters and a new weapons set for multiplayer. The pack will be out this Tuesday and will set gamers 1200 Microsoft points.

Finally, Joe Danger: Special Edition will be out for XBLA. This version of the former PSN action racing title now features a Laboratory mode where players must complete unique challenges created by the game’s developers. This version also features new game modes and characters. Gamers can expect to pull off their own stunts in 2D digital form this Wednesday.

Shippin’ Out Nov. 6-12: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim

Activision’s yearly shooter answers the call days before Elder Scrolls V returns players to Tamriel; Metal Gear Solid HD Collection also mobilizes.

632696 231573 Shippin Out Nov. 6 12: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim

After weeks of quips about the escalating holiday buying period, one of the biggest weeks of the season is actually here. If trends of past years continue, this week’s release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will mark the biggest game launch of the year. Skyrim is set to bring dragons to The Elder Scrolls universe with its Friday release, and Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker will make their transition to HD.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 marks the return of Activision’s annual military first-person shooter franchise, and the return of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare fork of the series on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The multiplayer mode is set to introduce a few changes to the MW2 formula. Additions include a new mode called “Kill Command” that has players in a race to collect dog tags from downed players, a new weapon leveling system, and a revamped streak system. Also, Modern Warfare 2′s Tactical Nuke is out.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim eschews the typical Tuesday game release day for a Friday launch to land on its highly publicized 11/11/11 date on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. It’s been five years since Bethesda’s last Elder Scrolls release, and the developer says it has folded in lessons learned from Oblivion and Fallout 3 alike. In typical series fashion, players can expect a sprawling open-world role-playing game with plenty of side quests to tackle. Dragons are a new addition to the series, and players will gain new abilities as they defeat the various winged beasts.

Announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo just five months ago, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is set to bring an assortment of past games in the series into the HD era. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, 3: Snake Eater, and the PSP’s Peace Walker are making their way to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in “optimized and rebuilt” versions that take advantage of the increased horsepower offered by modern consoles. Not simple ports, the games will feature redrawn 2D art, higher quality audio, trophies, achievements, and tweaked controls to utilize the second analog stick where needed.

For further details, visit GameSpot’s New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Asia Shippin’ Out October 23-29: Battlefield 3

EA’s contribution to digital modern warfare, a new portable Final Fantasy title, and a vampiric add-on are highlights for the week.

621026 230214 Asia Shippin Out October 23 29: Battlefield 3

The blockbuster titles just keep on rolling. Helming this week’s big releases is Battlefield 3, the latest in the hit Battlefield series that started in 2002. The game will feature large-scale multiplayer battles, an updated Frostbite 2 engine to show off destructibility and detailed environments, and a campaign mode set in the year 2014 where PLR Iranian insurgents are planning to start a war.

The game will be out on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 tomorrow. On a related note, gamers can check out GameSpot’s new reality online show The Controller, which features Battlefield 3.

Next up is Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PSP, due on October 28 in its native Japanese language. The long-awaited new entry in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series of Final Fantasy titles (starting with Final Fantasy XIII) will feature real-time and action-based combat, a three-party system where gamers can switch them with 12 reserve warriors, and ad hoc multiplayer with other PSP users. This PSP game is the first to use two UMDs.

After that is Kirby’s Return to Dreamland on the Wii. The game is a return to form for Kirby’s platforming and power-stealing shenanigans. This title will also feature four-player simultaneous co-op with other Kirby clones and new copy abilities for players to experiment with.

Finally, fans of inFamous 2 can download the latest stand-alone title called inFamous 2: Festival of Blood. This side story is a “what if” scenario where main character Cole is a vampire and has to fight off other vampires in New Marais. The game features new powers and new user-generated content tools to complement the feature introduced in inFamous 2. The downloadable title will be out this Tuesday; gamers do not need a copy of inFamous 2 to play this.

622840 200141 Asia Shippin Out Oct. 16 22: Batman: Arkham City

Headlining the charge in this week’re releases is Batman: Arkham City for the Xbox 360 and PS3, which is coming out this Wednesday. The game continues the events from 2009′s Batman: Arkham Asylum and takes place in North Gotham. The game has been critically-praised for its atmospheric game world, satisfying combat, and sticking true to the comic’s mythos. For more on this, check out GameSpot’s review of the game.

Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure was released on the weekend for all major platforms. The game lets players use specially-made miniature Skylander toys on top of a toy-scanning adapter and use them in-game. Each miniature acts as a personalized memory card for the title since players can save a character’s stat and powers onto it, as well as use it in another person’s copy of the game. The game also features downloadable content in the form of toys which includes new areas and new in-game challenges.

Lastly, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is making its way onto PS3s tomorrow. This 3D platformer is the latest in the Ratchet & Clank franchise and features four-player co-op in its campaign mode, drop-in and drop-out local and online support, and new weapons and platforming segments.

Shippin’ Out July 31 – Aug. 6: Bleach: Soul Resurreccion

Anime fighting game leads light week of new releases; Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet lands on 360 as Limbo bows on PS3.

626268 204389 Shippin Out July 31 Aug. 6: Bleach: Soul Resurreccion

The holiday gauntlet is almost here, but there are still a handful of low key release weeks remaining before Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Madden NFL 12 tip off a nearly non-stop parade of high-profile picks to keep gamers busy until 2012. This week’s biggest retail debut belongs to NIS America with the PlayStation 3 game Bleach: Soul Resurreccion.

Adapted from the hit anime, Soul Resurreccion is a 3D brawler along the lines of the Dynasty Warriors series. The game features 11 playable characters from the series, including main character Ichigo Kurosaki (along with his Hollow form), soul reaper Rukia Kuchiki, and arrancar antagonist Ulquiorra. Apart from fighting mobs of undead souls called Hollows, players can also customize the playable characters using the soul orb system, where players move pieces on a board and take over orbs to power up their characters of choice.

On the downloadable front, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 have aesthetically intriguing offerings on tap. For the Microsoft crowd, the 2D shooter Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet arrives as the third installment in the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade promotion. Meanwhile, PS3 owners will get a chance to try one of last year’s Summer of Arcade titles as Playdead’s Limbo makes its way to Sony’s downloadable storefront.

For further details on the week’s games, visit GameSpot’s New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Shippin’ Out July 24-30: Catherine, From Dust

New release slate led by Atlus’ horror puzzler and Ubisoft’s god game; Black Ops Annihilation DLC for PS3, Dragon Age II: Legacy DLC, 3DS Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions also hit this week.

The last week of July is a busy one for new games, as several high-profile games make their debut. New releases this week range from a horror-puzzle game from Atlus to fresh maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PlayStation 3.

Leading the charge is the well-received Catherine for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Catherine has players navigating tricky relationship waters (and equally tricky puzzles) as Vincent. When the commitment-phobic protagonist’s girlfriend Katherine starts talking about taking their relationship to the next level, Vincent finds himself straying. While out drinking with friends, he meets a flirty bombshell named Catherine, whom–after a series of events he can’t quite recall–he wakes up next to the following morning.

In addition to helping Vincent make decisions to extricate himself from the situation, players will be called on to fight off the physical manifestations of his fears and guilt as he sleeps. Atlus is also including local competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, as well as leaderboard support.

Also out this week is the second game in Microsoft’s five-title Summer of Arcade promotion, Ubisoft’s From Dust. Due out on Xbox Live Arcade and the PC, the game casts players as a supernatural force looking out for indigenous tribes in a seeming paradise beset by natural disasters.

By transporting land, water, vegetation, and lava around tropical environs, players can open up new pathways for villagers and protect them from earthquakes and other calamities. The various threats in the game can also be turned to the player’s advantage; for example, a well-placed tsunami could extinguish wildfires rather than sweep away villages.

PlayStation 3 gamers looking to pick up new maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops can grab the Annihilation downloadable content for Treyarch’s period shooter this Wednesday. It contains four new multiplayer maps and one fresh zombie level. The new killing spaces included in the downloadable content are Hangar 18, Silo, Drive-In, and Hazard. The zombie level is titled Shangri-La, described by Activision as “an exotic and mysterious map.”

Those who prefer fantasy to shooting can pick up new content for Dragon Age II this week for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The Legacy content arrives on Wednesday and in it gamers will suit up again as protagonist Hawke, travelling to an ancient Grey Warden prison. Players will uncover additional details about his family history. Additionally, Hawke will visit new environments, battle new and “improved” enemies, craft a deadly weapon, and ultimately come face-to-face with a terrible horror.

Players looking for a new portable game this week can pick up Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions for the 3DS. The bundle includes Pac-Man Tilt, Galaga 3D, and a handful of other titles from the seminal arcade franchises in one package.

A spin-off from the original maze-navigating, pellet-munching adventure, Pac-Man Tilt is a 2D platformer that will make use of the 3DS accelerometer. Players will be able to tilt the world as a way to solve environmental puzzles and evade roaming enemies. Namco Bandai will also be playing off Pac-Man’s spherical shape, as he is able to roll into a ball to speed through levels, bouncing off pinball flippers and springboards along the way.

Galaga 3D Impact will also be a riff on the tried-and-true arcade shooter formula and sees the spaceship-versus-aliens contest shift to the first-person shooter realm. The 3DS’ gyroscopic and 3D feature will factor into Galaga 3D Impact, as players will be able to physically move the system to take aim and fire at enemies before those enemies can destroy human civilization.

Lastly, Section 8: Prejudice is out this week for the PlayStation 3. Originally released in April on the Xbox 360, the PS3 version includes a number of features its console counterpart did not have. Section 8: Prejudice for the PS3 will include two new multiplayer game modes: Skirmish and Assault. Additionally, those who purchase the game during its debut week will score the Blitz Armor pack and the Overdrive map pack for free.

For further details on the week’s games, visit GameSpot’s New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and subject to change

Shippin’ Out July 17-23: Call of Juarez: The Cartel, Bastion

New release slate led by Ubisoft’s modern shooter, Supergiant’s downloadable game for XBLA; Captain America: Super Soldier, Fallout: New Vegas DLC, Just Dance Summer Party also out.

619748 217237 Shippin Out July 17 23: Call of Juarez: The Cartel, Bastion

This week in new releases sees a host of new titles hit store shelves ranging from Ubisoft’s Mexican drug war game to Supergiant’s downloable role-playing title.

Leading the pack this week is Ubisoft’s Call of Juarez: The Cartel for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Unlike its predecessors, which were set during the Wild West, Call of Juarez: The Cartel takes place during modern times.

As the name implies, the game chronicles a drug war along the Mexican border, casting players as a female FBI agent, a Wild West sheriff type, and an undercover drug agent. Polish developer Techland said it chose the setting in order to capture a “relevant plot” that would connect with today’s gamers.

Also debuting this week is Supergiant Games’ downloadable action role-playing title Bastion. The release kicks off Microsof’s Summer of Arcade promotion, which includes From Dust, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, Fruit Ninja Kinect, and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

As for the title in question, Bastion relies heavily on storytelling, offering more than 40 hand-painted environments that gamers explore to uncover the origins of Calamity, a civilization-destroying event.

Gamers looking to pick up a film tie-in title this week can grab Captain America: Super Soldier this week. The game arrives before its theatrical counterpart on Friday, and will hit the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, with a 3DS version following at some point later on.

Super Soldier will offer an original storyline based on the Captain America film, which stars Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men), and Samuel L. Jackson (Iron Man 2). Harking back to the comic franchise’s roots, Nazis will be the target of Captain America’s ire, as the shield-wielding hero squares off against his nemesis, Red Skull, in an effort to stop the evil machinations of the scientist Arnim Zola.

Also out this week on downloadable channels is the Old World Blues add-on for Fallout: New Vegas, as well as the PS3 iteration of Candygun’s zombie survival game Dead Block.

Lastly, gamers looking to boogie to a new tune in Ubisoft’s popular Just Dance franchise can pick Just Dance Summer Party this Tuesday on Wii. The game will include 20 new songs stemming from the ’80s, ’90s, and today, including Katy Perry’s “Firework,” Rihanna’s “Pon De Replay,” and Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of Monika).”

For further details on the week’s games, visit GameSpot’s New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and subject to change

Gamers will have a week dealing with all sorts of alien invasions, ranging from space primates to bugs.

606328 200670 Asia Shippin Out July 3 9: EDF: Insect Armageddon

While last week was all about the debut of Resident Evil on the 3DS and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition on consoles, this week will be bombarded with a number of games hell-bent on invasions from extraterrestrials. First up, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon will be out tomorrow for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Developed by Vicious Cycle Games, the people behind the Matt Hazard series and Dead Head Fred, EDF: Insect Armageddon will put gamers in the role of an EDF soldier as he kills all manner of giant ants, spiders, and other insects and bugs invading Earth. Multiplayer options include a six-player mode where gamers battle waves of bugs until they all are overrun.

The English version of the Move-enabled Ape Escape game will be out exclusively for the PS3 via the PlayStation Network. The game pits players to rid the world of the alien ape invasion by using a slingshot to lure them and a net to catch them in a rail-shooter perspective. Players will use the Move controller to capture the many types of space-faring apes led by head honcho simian Specter. The game will be available for download tomorrow.

AU Shippin’ Out May 9-13: Brink

Brink leads Aussie releases, with Steel Diver and MX vs. ATV Alive rounding out the pack.

Brink takes place in the year 2035 in a floating city called The Ark following the Earth’s near-total destruction. Two warring factions, the Security and the Resistance, are going head-to-head in a bid to outdo each other and take control of the city. You’ll be able to choose between these two factions when playing through the campaign. The shooter comes out on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on May 12.
